Building and Leading Effective Global Engineering Teams
Summary
Building and leading a global engineering workforce can be challenging, but it is a reality in today's interconnected world. In this roundtable discussion, I hope to share some of my experiences building a 60-person intercontinental engineering organization at Life360, including failures, successes, and (actual) war stories.
We'd love your participation in this interactive roundtable if you are currently, or are considering, leading a global team. Meet your peers as we discuss challenges such as timezone coordination, asynchronous work, transmitting cultural context across regions, and share some things that have helped us build healthier, more effective teams.
Host
Jake is an engineering leader, entrepreneur, and technology investor based in San Francisco.
From building his first website at the age of 8, to shipping large-scale software at Apple, to overseeing development of the flagship Life360 app, Jake has navigated engineering challenges at all scales. At Life360, Jake jump-started the European engineering office, scaling the organization from 0 to 60 people in two years. Learning from technical challenges, cultural nuances, time zone gymnastics, strategic acquisitions, and (actual) war stories, Jake has crafted his leadership style. He believes in the power of transparency and embracing rich cultural differences to strengthen an organization. Now a founder of Showspace, Jake continues to champion these beliefs, fostering connections, bridging distances, and leading the charge towards a more integrated future of work by connecting top talent with great companies.
