Reinventing Early Career Hiring
Summary
Early career hiring is no new concept, and many of the building blocks for an early career program remain the same. However, with recent challenges in the form of the pandemic, tight budgets, and more prevalent remote work it can be hard to figure out whether and how to advocate for an early career program, how best to design it, and how you can support the engineers in the program. We will talk through onboarding early career folks remotely, structuring your teams for success, and sources for finding early career candidates.

Gabe Westmaas is the head of Engineering at Checkr, the leading background check company, whose mission is creating a fairer future for all. From a Software Engineer to Senior Vice President, he has developed cutting-edge applications and systems, leveraging emerging technologies to create seamless user experiences. He has led entire engineering teams ranging in size from 25 to over 300, but regardless of size, all his teams have had an internship or early career program as part of their recruiting strategy. Gabe is driven by a desire to make a positive impact on the world and believes in the power of technology and innovation to drive change and improve lives.
