Most people believe that recruiting for engineers on different levels are unrelated. In Farhan's experience, however, the approaches have a lot in common. This discussion will focus on engineering recruiting at all levels and will hone in on why you want to have lots of early engineers on your team that you help grow.

Farhan Thawar is currently VP, Engineering at Shopify via the acquisition of where he was co-founder and CTO. Previously he was the CTO, Mobile at Pivotal and VP, Engineering at Pivotal Labs via the acquisition of Xtreme Labs. He is an avid writer and speaker and was named one of Toronto's 25 most powerful people. Prior to Xtreme, Farhan held senior technical positions at Achievers, Microsoft, Celestica, and Trilogy. Farhan completed his MBA in Financial Engineering at Rotman and Computer Science/EE at Waterloo. Farhan is also an advisor at yCombinator and holds a board seat at Optiva (formerly Redknee).

CTO @ Lambda School

Namrata is the CTO of Lambda School. Prior to joining Lambda school, She led Engineering and Product teams at Coinbase, Facebook, Paypal, Microsoft, and other startups. She is the founder of Ashia Foundation, a nonprofit with a mission to educate and empower women of all ages, races, and religion

CTO & Co-founder @ Rainforest QA

Russell is CTO / Co-founder of Rainforest QA. They are a remote 1st team, and have been remote since their second employee. In a past life, Russell provided consultancy for startups & companies around development, ops, architecture design and capacity planning. Russell still codes.

Jerry is passionate about connecting people and empower their career growth. He founded SFELC for this purpose. SFELC is a curated community of 4200+ engineering leaders across all levels in San Francisco and beyond, with a mission to connect the world's engineering leaders and help evolve how leadership is implemented in the tech industry.

Prior to SFELC, he was a director engineering at Groupon, overseeing the entire payments engineering with distributed teams. Before Groupon, he was an engineer and later an engineering manager at Amazon.
