peer group

a space to discuss real challenges

Life as an engineering leader can be challenging and lonely. We are constantly faced with high-stakes problems and have to rely on trial-and-error. It’s a struggle to find trusted groups of peers to gain outside perspectives, validate ideas, and identify blind spots. Where can you find a safe space to discuss real challenges and get unfiltered advice from people that have been in our shoes and truly "get" us?

Peer groups close this gap.

Gain outside perspectives
“ELC Peer groups have been invaluable ingaining an additional, outside perspective, get exposure to more scenarios, and build meaningful professional relationships.
On one occasion after starting to manage a large team I was able to get helpful tactics from another manager in the group who had been managing a very large team for over a year. Being able to talk through specific aspects of the situation in detail and figure out what parts were relevant helped accelerate the learning process”

Get unbiased support
“Peer groups have helped to connect me with other engineering managers to talk about similar problems we are facing in the work place. Most of all, they’ve helped me to feel supported in a different and unbiased kind of way I would never be able to get at work

Reduce the cost of learning
"Peer groups have helped me grow as a leader and make better decisions at work by learning from experiences of other leaders in the group."

Moderated conversation
“I find having a senior moderator dedicated to the group especially helpful. The moderator not only offers broader views of the issues but provides methodical approaches to understand the issue more deeply with recommended books or articles for the group to continue the learning afterwards.”

The intimate nature of this group creates a safe environment to discuss challenges openly.Being part of peer group helped me build long lasting relationship that spans multiple years and it is like having a personal board of directors.

Multiply your growth and learning
“I started participating ELC's peer group when it started in 2017. It was such a positive learning opportunity that I recommend everyone to participate. The group learned from each other and helps to solve each other's challenges. We met regularly and went deep into these challenges. It felt like I was working in several different companies and managing different teams at the same time.We learn from each other on problem-solving and question each other on perspectives and assumptions. As the result, I've become more sophisticated in my critical thinking and delivered real business impact with my team”

A space to be vulnerable
“Peer manager group helped me to gain valuable insights from other managers addressing all aspects of engineering management. I could express my challenges freely without worrying about being judged and get guidance from other managers. Being participated for almost 2 years I can say it is the best support group for engineering managers in Bay Area.”

A valuable forum to discuss problems
“Being a leader is a lonely job at times, especially when we need to solve real world problems and need to rely on our own gut. Peer group discussions have been a valuable forum to discuss problems with a trusted set of peers. We end up discussing a wide range of problems including performance management, managing up/out, recruiting, etc. Getting feedback and perspective from the peers who genuinely care has helped me build more conviction and grow as a leader.”
